Giving back to our community - December 2010
A time of giving for The Santa Rosa 4x4s, Inc.
During the Holiday season, many people notice the need to give to those that are less fortunate. But how many of us actually do more than just acknowledge that need? How many of us actually step up to make a difference?
Making a difference is exactly what The Santa Rosa 4x4’s Inc. did this holiday season!
On December 12th The Santa Rosa 4x4 Club donated more than 35 cubic feet of canned, boxed, dried foods and other cleaning supplies to Presbyterian Charities to stock their newly built food pantry.
This accomplishment was so wonderful that the Club decided to make the Toy Drive more of a challenge. A member-to-member challenge was sent out. That challenge was that if every club member donated a toy to the toy drive, one member pledged to donate $100.00 towards additional toy purchases. In reaction to the challenge another club member pledged to match the first pledge of $100.00 if the requirements were met by the membership. And not to be out done, a third club member pledged to donate $100.00 worth of Hot Wheels from his own personal collection! The challenge was set.
Club Members met Saturday the 18th at 9:00am and it was amazing to see the amount toys that arrived with each member. There were enough toys donated to meet the challenge requirement many times over. The Santa Rosa 4x4s really came through for the kids this year! It was an amazing effort by all.
Since the requirement was met, the collection of Hot Wheels was turned into the donation, and the Club went shopping for an additional $200.00 worth of toys.
Big Lots of Santa Rosa happened to be the store that the club decided to purchase from. The membership requested to speak to the manager and informed him of our intentions of purchasing additional toys for our toy drive. The manager told us he would take an additional 20% off all items we purchased for the event.
The two and a half shopping carts of toys later, we loaded the toys into our vehicles and we were off to deliver the toys. We made two different stops and gave half to each stop. The first delivery was made to Santa Rosa Fire Station # 1 on Sonoma Ave. The second delivery was made to Rincon Valley Fire on Todd Rd.
Special thanks to all the Club Members, Family, Friends, and local businesses that donated and were part of this wonderful event to give this holiday season.
